Wednesday - May 26th - 0800 to 1600 (Wor-Wic College)
Thursday - May 27th - 1300 to 2100 (Night Ride) (Salisbury University as well as Ocean City Maryland)
Friday - May 28th - 0800 to 1600 Class and Testing (Wor-Wic College)

All meals provided by student. 1 hour provided for lunch/dinner.

Accommodations :

Accomodations are available within five (5) to ten (10) minute drive from training facility. Hotel/Motel rates vary, but average approximately $75.00 per night for a non-smoking room with two (2) twin beds. Government Rates usually apply and are available. If hotel accomodations are required, please contact the instructor for details concerning such.

Bike and Required equipment in proper riding and working order must be provided on each day. Mandatory Riding Equipment:
PROPERLY fitted Mountain Bike - Police Department Issued
Helmet (Properly Sized)
Toe Restraints (clips, clipless, powergrips)
Eye Protection
Gloves (fingered or fingerless)
Duty Gear (Weapon and all equipment department expects officer to be equiped with except radio)
Bike Rack with Saddle Bag
Night Ride (Thursday Night) - White light facing forward, minimum 5 watts. Rear red reflector or red LED flashing light. Flashlight taped to handlebars not acceptable.

Water Bottle
Energy Bar (snack)

Refer to IPMBA to note course requirements and equipment required. No exceptions will be made for improper and unacceptable equipment. Officers should be in physical shape and should expect rigourous physical activity. Student's court dates should be rearranged to allow full attendance during such training.

Description : :

Bicycle officers need to ride whenever and wherever they are needed. Proper training is essential to an officer's on-the-job performance and safety. It is also critical in reducing liability. The PC course provides bicycle officers with the skills they need to effectively serve their communities. The course is divided into eleven units: Bike Handling & Vehicular Cycling, Bike Fit, Group Riding, Hazard Recognition & Common Crashes, Obstacle Clearing & Riding Techniques, Patrol Procedures, Nighttime Patrol, Community Policing, Basic Maintenance, Legal Issues & Traffic Laws, and Fitness & Nutrition. This demanding class involves over 20 hours of on-bike time to develop and improve riding skills.
Course Length: minimum 32 hours
Testing Procedure: written & on-bike
Requirements: Applicants must be police officers currently assigned to bike patrol, officers applying to become members of a bike unit, or members of a department considering use of the bicycle.
Certification: IPMBA Certification is available to sworn police officers who successfully complete the practical test, earn a score of 76% or better on the written test, become members of IPMBA, and submit applications for certification accompanied by the appropriate fee.
