Description : :
|
In anticipation of the
2008 Republican National
Convention (RNC), members of the
St. Paul and Minneapolis Police
Departments engaged in weeks of
intense Bicycle Response Team
Training. Nearly 120 officers
were trained in escort,
blocking, diversionary, and
dispersal techniques to enable
them to manage and control the
expected crowds. This course,
developed and conducted by
members of the interagency RNC
BRT, will prepare you to
integrate bike officers into a
variety of crowd situations.
Topics include: Incident
Command and Communications,
Crowd Tactics, Crowd Demeanor
Levels, Precursors to
Violence, Professionalism and
Discipline, Tactics for Crowd
Management and Control,
and Formations and
Transitions. Practical
exercises involve slow speed
drills, mounts and dismounts,
mounted formations and
deployment, pair riding in
crowds, single- and
double-column riding and
transitioning, arrest/rescue
techniques, squad withdrawal,
and gas mask drills. In addition
to providing classroom
instruction and hands-on
practice, instructors will
provide a behind-the-scenes look
at the preparations for this
large-scale event and share
real-world stories and lessons
learned throughout the four days
of the convention.
Prerequisites: Current
IPMBA membership, IPMBA Police
Cyclist Certification or
equivalent; open to
fully-commissioned law
enforcement officers with arrest
powers only.
Course Length: 24 hours
Required Equipment: Download
BRTT
Equipment List [.pdf
40K].
Testing Procedure: on-bike
Certification: A
certificate of completion will
be issued to each student who
successfully completes the
practical tests. |
